project - Retreat from Urban Living

Uniting family members from New York and Chicago with a home built with glass, cedar and aluminum using a modern design from the New York part of the family, this home is open and flexible. The family uses this home to ski both in the summer and winter, and to oversee tennis tournaments in the late summer in Kalamazoo while escaping their urban demands for long weekends and holidays. The open space and multiple bedrooms and baths allow guests and family to enjoy the space without conflict, and the adjoining bocce court and permanent dock allow plenty of recreation options. The standing seam galvalume metal roof and deep overhangs give protection to the family and to the home, and the cedar siding and bluestone accents tie into the pine grove that fronts the house.
